The Psalms and Writings

A group of five Old Testament books (Job—Song of Solomon).

The books of Job, Psalms , Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon are written in a poetic style. The book of Psalms is a collection of 150 songs and poems, many of which were used in Israel’s worship. The other writings can be loosely grouped together under the category of “wisdom.” Wisdom literature gives counsel on the living of life and attempts to make sense of the problems people face. Job considers the problem of suffering, Proverbs deals with godly living, Ecclesiastes reflects on the vanity of human life, and the Song of Solomon celebrates the love of a man and a woman.
