Let justice roll down
like waters
(Amos 5:24)

Amos lived about
750 B.C. He came from the village of Tekoa in Judah where he was a herdsman
and a dresser of sycamore trees. Although he came from the south, he prophesied
in the northern kingdom, especially at the sanctuary at Bethel. He condemned
Israel's oppression of the poor and said "let justice roll down like
waters and righteousness like an everflowing stream" (5:24).
