David was the second king of Israel, who united the northern and southern parts of Palestine. David began his reign in Hebron in the southern part of the country, but he later won the support of the northern tribes as well. He captured the centrally located city of Jerusalem and made it his capital and center for worship. His reign lasted forty years (1000-961 B.C.) |
